Our Journey Through The Years

Follow our train through the decades as we grew from humble beginnings to Jamaica's most iconic patty destination.

The Beginning

Where It All Started

Vincent Chang, having just completed his baking education in the United States, married Valerie Doreen Lue Shing. Together, they founded Tastee Limited at Union Square in Kingston. Their mission was simple: create a patty so delicious that customers couldn't get enough of it.

The Growth

Kingston Falls in Love

Word spread quickly about the delicious patties at Union Square. Jamaicans traveled from far and wide just to experience a Tastee Patty. The demand grew so rapidly that the business had to relocate to Cross Roads — which remains the corporate headquarters to this day.

Expansion Era

Island-Wide Reach

Throughout the 1980s, Tastee expanded beyond Kingston, opening multiple locations across Jamaica. The company introduced new patty varieties including curried chicken, jerk chicken, and vegetable — each crafted with the same dedication to quality that made the original beef patty legendary.

Innovation

More Than Just Patties

Tastee evolved into a full quick-service restaurant, adding fried chicken in three varieties (spicy, original, and barbecue), authentic Jamaican breakfast and lunch options, and a wide selection of pastries. The company also launched its catering division, serving events of all sizes.

The Chang Family Legacy

The story of Tastee is an enduring tale of modest beginnings and the tenacious pursuit of a dream, by a husband and wife who were determined in their hearts to build a foundation for their children.

Vincent Chang arrived in Jamaica from Hong Kong at the age of 13. He learned the art of baking at Hannah Town Bakery in Kingston, then pursued his education at the American Institute of Baking in Chicago and the William Hood Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis.

"I remember it vividly — we kept trying to make a patty that was really good. When we baked it and put it out to our customers to test, their comments always boiled down to it being really tasty. That's how the name Tastee came about." — Vincent Chang, Founder

Following Vincent and Valerie's marriage in 1966, they started Tastee Limited together. Their union produced four children: Robert, Lisa, Simone, and Warren. The family's dedication to quality and authentic Jamaican flavor continues to guide the company to this day.
